It's 2020! How is that even possible? I had a great two week break and hope your families did as well. Now that were back we are diving into a unit on advertising. We will be look at how advertisers look to influence and impact kids. It should be eye opening. We are also starting to work on the iReady diagnostic as well. We are starting to plan our presentations today! I am so excited for this! Students are working together to plan for how they will present their biographies and who they will present it about. I am going to attach a rubric to show how students will be graded and also the menu of choices they can select their media type from. Those will be attached below.
Just a reminder about conferences Monday evening and all day Tuesday! Can' wait to share with you how this school year is going!
We are starting our Biography Multimedia Presentation unit this week! We started off with learning about Nelson Mandela. We've watched clips of the bio-pic Invictus and asked questions about the setting, Nelson himself, and South Africa. We are using this media to show students that articles and books aren't the only resource available when learning about a person. I can't wait to share with you the different tools students will have available to craft their presentations. I am excited!
The literary analysis will be due Monday, November 11th. (No school that day). The final draft needs to submitted in Google Classroom. I planned it this way, so students could take time over the weekend to complete it (and all of Monday too). I am excited to read these essays and share them with you at conferences at the end of the month!
We have started our first essay of the year. We are working on a literary analysis. Why do we analyze literature? Because it allows us to develop a deeper understanding and connection with our text. Our literary analysis is with the book Ghost Boys and the final essay will be due Monday, November 11th. (This way they take the long weekend to complete it, if they need it) I will be working to get these graded to share with you at conferences. I am excited to read them! Next up, BIOGRAPHIES! I am excited to start this multimedia unit that allows us to look closely at prominent individuals of all cultures, races and backgrounds!
We have been getting ready to start our novel study Ghost Boys by doing research on some new topics. We have been learning about Jim Crow Laws, Civil Rights Laws and Brown vs Board of Education. This back ground information will be super useful for reading Ghost Boys. I am very excited to start reading this book! We start Wednesday, October 9. I hope students are excited as well and come home sharing what they're reading!
Quick reminder! No school on Friday! Now, to this weeks work! Students have been completing their iReady assessment with Mr. Meyers. These assessments allow me to see where are students are reading and writing at but they also allow me to plan instruction that is beneficial to each student. Next week we are going to start reading Ghost Boys and I can not wait! I am also excited to be back with the students. I took a short term leave for the month of September related to some medical needs I had and I am really looking forward to being back with my kids! I look forward to sharing with you our work over these next few weeks and moving forward.
This week we are starting the work to help us begin reading Ghost Boys! I am so excited for this book! I read it in the Spring, while looking for books to use as our novel study this year, and I LOVED it! I am so excited to read this with the kids once I am back in the classroom! This week, Mr Meyers is having students work on new vocabulary words, and is also introducing the first style of writing students will be working on. Literary Analysis. Students will be completing a literary analysis of the book "Ghost Boys" once we finish reading it. I just can't tell you how exited I am to start this book!
